Nylon Filter Mesh for Filtering Water

Nylon Mesh Water Filters can be very good or very bad for screening water. On the plus side, nylon filter meshes are light strong and can be made very finely – here at Rotorflush our smallest aperture nylon filter mesh is 60 microns. Nylon meshes are also very smooth, which mitigates organic material in water snagging on the mesh. Nylon mesh is excellent for clean water applications.

On the downside nylon mesh is too fine to handle even a relatively small amount of particulate debris or contaminant in water can tear, nylon meshes have a low open area, and they need replacing regularly as the nylon will become brittle and wear over time. If this is the case, a stainless steel mesh is better.

A pump suction intake filter can be fitted with nylon mesh, providing the water is VERY clean or the intake has some means of keeping the mesh clear.

Nylon Mesh Self-cleaning Filters

Rotorflush filters limited manufacture and sell a wide range of self-cleaning filters that connect to the suction intake of pumps, and we also manufacture and sell submersible pumps with a built-in self-cleaning intake system.

Our smaller filtration products – those able to handle flow rates of 30 - 1000 litres a minute – can be fitted with nylon filter mesh. These meshes are made from woven nylon cut on a bias, which gives them additional strength when fitted to our self-cleaning filters.

Our filters and screens do not use a continuous wrap around of nylon mesh; instead we use sets of nylon mesh inserts which can be easily replaced. It is simple to change a damaged insert or replace a set to change the filter mesh size.

Cleaning the mesh is simple too – our filters with their automatic backwash easily clear debris as their cleaning jets rinse the nylon mesh screens.
