Backwash Pump - Pumps with Backwash

What are Backwash Pumps?

A backwash pump is either:

a) a surface mounted pump being used to supply a backwash to an intake screen

b) A backwash pump built-in to a suction intake screen.

c) a pump with a built-in backwash that self-cleans its intake as it pumps.

Backwash Pumps to Help Keep Water Flowing

Suction intake hoses, suction intake screens and pump intakes can easily block and clog when drawing water. This is especially true where water quality and conditions are not ideal - for example, lakes, rivers and streams with high levels of debris weed and other particulates, or when pumping waste water from treatment plants, farms, and industrial processing.

A backwash pump can be used to remove any build-up of material that might block the intake.

Rotorflush Filters Ltd manufacture and supply self-cleaning suction hose intake screens that continuously self-clean as water is pumped. The backwash for these screens can be supplied from a portion of pumped output - so that the connected pump becomes both water pump and backwash pump. Or a separate dry mounted backwash pump can be used to circulate filtered backwash water to the suction intake screen.

Self-cleaning Filters and Screens are available for a wide range of applications and flow rates.

Rotorflush self-cleaning intake filters for attachment to the suction hose of surface mounted pumps can be fitted with a built-in submersible backwash pump.

This allows you to vary the output of your pump without affecting the performance of the backwash in the filter – useful if you have a variable speed drive on your pump. The backwash is provided independently of the pump suction.

The filters have a separate motor to drive their internal self-cleaning backwash, so that the cleaning mechanism is driven independently of the surface mounted pump - they have their own integral backwash pump to keep the filter mesh clear
