What are Rotorflush Backwash Filters?

They are our stainless steel self-cleaning filters with a built-in backwash pump. The filter's backwash pump cleans the filter constantly, even if your main pump output is variable. Backwashing filters fitted with a backwash pump will self-clean independently of the flow rate being drawn through the filter.

What do Backwash Filters Do?

Two Kinds of Back-flushing Filters

Our backwash filters are self-cleaning intake filters for attachment to the suction hose of surface mounted pumps.  All our self-cleaning strainers and filters incorporate our patented backwash cleaning system. It backwashes the intake screen continuously when water is being pumped, keeping the screen and mesh clear even in challenging water conditions. There are two kinds of backflushing filters that we offer, those that get their backwash supplied from the water being pumped, and those with a built-in backwash pump.

Backwash Filters Powered by Your Pump

In most of our self-cleaning backwash strainers the backwash powered by the pump they are attached to – a small portion of your pumped output is returned to the filter as backwash. This set up is simple and ensures that there is a backwash to the suction intake filter whenever your pump is running.

However, some of our backwashing filters have a built-in submersible pump to provide a continuous backwash. These backwashing filters have their own integral backwash pump to keep the filter mesh clear.

This pump circulates a backwash to the filter mesh independently of your main pump. This is useful if your main pump is running on a variable speed drive, or if water demand is variable.  It means that a constant backwash can be supplied whatever your water demand.

This allows you to vary the output of your pump without affecting the performance of the backwash in the filter, which remains constant and continuous thanks to the integral backwash pump.
